Keep IT Cool has been at the forefront of solving this challenge by providing innovative cold chain solutions, ensuring that fresh produce reaches markets efficiently and sustainably.
A Step Forward For The Poultry And Fish Value Chain
On 31st March 2025, Keep IT Cool performed ground breaking for what will be one of the biggest solar powered cold chain hubs in the region and the first in Kenya.
The groundbreaking of this solar-powered facility marks a new chapter in enhancing cold chain infrastructure. By integrating renewable energy solutions, Keep IT Cool aims to reduce food spoilage, carbon emissions, and economic losses, while supporting small-scale farmers and retailers.
The new facility is set to revolutionize food storage, enhance food security, and reduce post-harvest losses. With additional solar-powered storage units, a chicken abattoir, and improved fish and chicken storage and handling facilities, this initiative strengthens the local food supply chain while promoting environmental sustainability.
During the event, Keep IT Cool reaffirmed its commitment to growing its impact across the poultry and fish value chains. The facility will scale operations by 7X, ensuring more efficient and reliable cold storage solutions for farmers, retailers, and consumers.
Moreover, during this event, Keep IT Cool showcased its new addition to their fleet, electric delivery bikes and Hybrid 7T first-mile truck transitioning from fossil fuel options.

Government officials, including representatives from Kenya Fisheries Services, Kiambu County and the Sub-County Directorate of Veterinary Services, were also present, along with investors from Acumen, FSD Africa, Intellicap, Africa Development Finance Bank, and DOB Equity.
The event also welcomed members of the community and local poultry farmers, underscoring the widespread support for this transformative project.The Keep IT Cool Solar-Powered Wezesha Hub is a major leap toward a sustainable cold chain, empowering farmers, reducing food waste, and strengthening the poultry and fish value chains while also fostering local employment and community development in Kenya.
